semana de 11 de abril de 2016

We are at the last hurdle of the year :).  Testing begins this week.

Disclaimer: ALL students are responsible for work missed due to testing.  Testing is considered as if they were absent/field trip so assignments will need to be made up. If a quiz or test was missed, they are expected to attend the Monday morning tutoring following the day they missed.  They will ONLY have 1 week to turn in work missed.  Assignments have been placed on gradebook ahead of time with this purpose!!!

SO8

Please check the gradebook for upcoming assignments.  I have placed the whole month of April in the grade book so you know what assignments are coming up.  Try not to miss because we will be busy.  There is a HW assignment on the portal due the 19th of April by 9:59 PM NO Later.  Please remember the portal sometimes gives you problems uploading, make sure you give yourself time for such circumstances.  I will NOT accept the assignment late, no matter the circumstances since you had 13 days to do the assignment.
There are upcoming tests as well.  If you miss the movie you will have an alternate assignment as you did for WalkOut.

There will be no surprises for those of you that do not read the weekly schedule in class, it is in the gradebook.

SO9

This week we will continue with the geography of Spain and continue reading El Sueño de Otto.  We will also be reviewing the vocabulary with Otto.  We will continue our readings of Bilbao, San Sebastián, Fiestas de Rosario, etc.  These articles will be interlaced with Otto in the next few weeks.  There will be questions associated with each assignment and/or chapters of Otto. You will also have assignments with the formal (plural) commands this week.   Check the gradebook, it has upcoming assignments.

LOS MANDATOS

Commands are a part of everyday life.  How we make commands in Spanish depends upon whom we are speaking to.  Let’s start with informal commands first.  These are the types of commands we give to friends and family.

Informal commands (affirmative)
These are very simple to form.  Just take the infinitive form and drop the –r (for –ar and –er) drop the –ir for (-ir verbs) and change it to an -e.
(This is the same thing as just using the _ él/ella/ud. __ form if that’s easier for you.)

Informal commands (negative)
Begin by placing a NO in front of the verb before you conjugate the verb.
To make a negative tú command, start with the yo form of the verb, drop the -o, and add the appropriate ending.

Opposite endings means that verbs which end in –ar, won’t take the –as ending  but instead will take the  -es ending.

Verbs which end in –er or –ir won’t take the –es ending but instead take the -as ending.

Práctica:

1. cantar +    canta
2. mirar +     mira
3. beber -       no bebas
4. escuchar + escucha
5. hablar -      no hables
6. escribir -     no escribas
7. comer +      come
8. salir -          no salgas
9. hacer -        no hagas
10 perder -     no pierdas

Don’t forget the –car, -car, -zar verbs!
Remember that when we make negative commands from a verb that ends in –car, -gar, or –zar, we make some spelling changes to keep the original sound.  You remember this!

For verbs that end in –car, the c changes to qu and then we add the opposite ending which will always be -es since these are –ar verbs!  For verbs that end in –gar, the g changes to gu, and for verbs that end in –zar, the z changes to a c.

Práctica:

11. buscar     no busques
12. pagar      no pagues
13.  empezar no empieces
14. tocar        no toques

What about the irregular affirmative commands?
These are the verbs that are used over and over again as they have been shortened down through the centuries.  They’re pretty easy to remember since they are almost all –go verbs.

poner _pon
tener  ten                *Say Vin Diesel has ten weapons.
venir ven
salir   sal                  sé ven di sal haz ten vé pon
hacer haz
decir  di

ir       ve
ser

Negative commands with ir and ser
As you might imagine, ir and ser are almost always irregular!  This is true for them as negative commands too!

ir becomes no vayas
ser becomes no seas

What are the negative forms of these commands?  (Hint:  They are regular as negative commands.  Just follow the rules to make negative commands!)

poner              no pongas
tener               no tengas
venir               no vengas
salir                no salgas
hacer              no hagas
decir               no dogas

Mandatos informales
1.B
2. Tú
3. you are telling someone what to do, requesting them to do something
4. –ar verbs drop the r,  -er verbs drop the r, -ir verbs drop the ir and add an e
5. arregla
   Corta
   Lava
   Recoge
   Cuelga
6. ven
    Di
    Haz
    Ten
    Ve
   Pon
7.  negative means you are asking for them not to do something (don’t do)
8.  yo form, drop the o and add the opposite tú ending
9. no arregles
   No hagas
   No laves
  No pongas
  No sacudas
10.  es                               no cuelgues
       Es                              no practiques
       Es                              no empieces

*** sé

  No seas

Hola clase

SO9

This week we will finish the presentations on painters, so you have the whole Spring Break to study.  When we return we will have a test on the art work and artist.  We should be able to start and finish the Goya movie this week and take the quiz on the movie as well.  It will be beneficial if you take notes so you do not forget the events in the movie in case we have to wait till we come back.  I may give it to you as a take home exam if we run out of time so you do not forget the events.

SO8

This week we will be doing speaking activities and begin to use the new vocabulary.  You will be having notes on the next grammar concept: Informal Commands (Imperative).  We will also begin to work on our map reading skills if we have time this week.  If not we will begin with map reading upon our return.  We will also be doing a reading comprehension this week, time permitting.  Be prepared once we return to be working and a project will be assigned.

Happy Break!  Disfruta las vacaciones :)

la semana de 07 de marzo

SO8

This week you will have a take home quiz on demonstratives and how to use adjectives as nouns.  It is like the packet you did last week in class and/or finished for homework.  The take home quiz will be due next class.

This week you will have the quiz on the presentations from the Chicano Movement as well as the one on the movie once we finish it.

There will be HW assignments as well.  The HW for the end of the week is to PRINT OR WRITE the new vocabulary in your notebook.  This is located in the quizlet SO8: la Comunidad

We will begin using this new vocabulary next week.

SO9

This week you will be doing 2 reading comprehensions one on Guérnica and the other on a tourist attraction.  For the tourist attraction article, you will be doing a compare/contrast with the one you brought to class and discussed last week.  We will also continue our work with Goya and begin the movie this week.

You have a HW on quizlet, due at the end of the week.  El Sueño de Otto vocabulary (September 2014).  Remember you can PRINT or WRITE it in your notebook!!!

Wednesday, February 24, 2016

semana de 22 de febrero y 29 de febrero de 2016

During MOVIES NO ONE in class will have music privileges!!!

SO9

This week we will continue to explore and interpret works of art.  We will continue on the travel vocabulary and have some reading comprehension activities as well as speaking activities.  A HW assignment for 03/04 March is a current event about travel to another country or about a hotel  (in Spanish).  Bring the article to class, that is ALL you must do.  Use the newspaper links on the blog (under useful resources) to find a paper and article.  Choose a SPANISH speaking country to travel to.  We will also continue our preparation for Goya's Ghosts which we will be starting soon.

SO8

This week we will be presenting our investigations in preparation to our movie on the Chicano Civil Rights Movement.  You will be tested on the presentations and on the movie.  Be prepared to be here in order to watch it and not go home early.  If you are absent, you will have to do the alternative assignment even if you have parent permission, since you will be tested on the material in the movie.  This movie is not easy to find on line and if you do find it, it is excerpts not the whole thing.  You will continue to have HW assignments on the demonstrative and on the preterite while we are watching the movie in class.  You will also be having quizzes on the material assigned for HW.  Be prepared.

semana de 26 de enero y 02 de febrero 2016

Hola clase,

Another short weeks.  Remember 04 Feb is the YORP FEST and 05 Feb is take your child to work.

SO8

We will continue working on the Andalusia unit in preparation to YORP FEST on the 4th!  This week we will finish the powerpoints you are working on and you will be presenting your information.

We also are continuing with the clothing chapter.  The grammar concepts we will be working on are demonstrative adjectives, expect HW with this AND Preterite (past tense).  After the 14th of February we will begin our new theme: Chicano Civil Rights.  There will be an investigation you will be doing and a presentation so BE PREPARED!!!  on the right side of the post you have websites to help with the investigation, use them to make finding the information easier.  We will be watching a movie at the end of the unit, parent consent will be needed.  I will be passing the permission slips out in the next week or so.  If I do not have a slip, you will not be allowed to stay in the classroom to watch it.  Instead an alternative assignment will be given and an alternate test will be given.

SO9

We will finish Andalusia this week and work on the tiles in preparation for YORP FEST!
We will have a day in the computer lab to finish the powerpoints.  Once they are done, you will have to load them into the HW drop box on the portal and NO WHERE else!!!
Date to drop them in will be given in class.

We will continue with our trip vocabulary and future tense.  We will have a brief introduction to being in a café and we will begin working on different areas of being a tourist.  We will begin preparation for our next book:  El Sueño de Otto.  You will have vocabulary assignments, quizzes, etc.  We will be reading in class and have activities with the book.  We will begin the book the 2nd week in February.
