Week of 29 October

Hola clase,

This week your vocabulary is due.  remember if for religious reasons you cannot participate in the Día de los muertos activities please bring a note to class on Monday/Tuesday.  Or you can have your parent/guardian email me.

This week you will be watching short videos on Day of the Dead. You will learn about its meaning and the importance in the Mexican culture.  There will be a reading comprehension, our first one of the year so we will be doing it together.  You will also be participating in a few of the preparations done for this day in Mexico.  We will also continue to prepare for Mercado.  Please make sure your passport is turned in on Monday November 4 or Tuesday November 5.  Or else you will receive a grade of Z for that assignment.  I will keep them until mercado.  No late work accepted!  the next 2 weeks we will begin working on our new grammar topics.  SO8: affirmative/negative words SO9:  formal and plural commands.  Be prepared to work.

Week of 22 October

Hola clase,
Espero que todos estén pasando un fin de semana maravilloso.  As promised I am putting the answers to your hw packet on here so you can use it to study. They will be at the bottom of this page.

This is an early release week and a short week with the end of the 9 weeks.  Your 9 week exam is on Monday or Tuesday.  Please be in class!  They are not letting us do grade changes easily so if you do not make up the quizzes, poem presentation or the 9 week test by Wednesday I have to put in Zs and that will hurt your grade.

So what is the plan for the week?  We will take the test, discuss mercado, choose your country for mercado and your people as well as what you are planning.  Guess what, I heard through the grapevine that food will NOT be allowed to be sold.  What does that  mean?  You need to get creative as to how you can make money in your booth.  I gave you examples in class already.  Sorry 6th period but no mercado for you, since I will not be there and your actions for our Hispanic Heritage Celebration tell me you cannot handle it . :(   Mercado will be November 8 and 9  so start working on your passports.  If you have not picked a country for your group you will pick after the test.  Passport must include:  a map of the country, a flag of the country (could be drawn and colored), a place for your visa stamps (label this page Visas), a picture of yourself (if you don´t want to be put in jail by la migra) and the information provided on the sample.

You will be receiving 1 grade for the passport, 1 grade for the stamps.  The passport will need to have some color, preferably it should look close to a real one.  I will have some construction, colored paper for those of you that want it.  Remember this can be added to your portfolio under the AOI: Health and Social Ed.  the passport will be due the Monday, Tuesday prior to Mercado.  NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS.

This week and next week we will be working of affirmative and negative words for SO8 as well as begin out Day of the dead Unit.  This will include vocabulary and some on line investigations.  SO9 you will continue to work on the formal and plural commands.  So that is the update.  workbook pages will be assigned next week.  No homework this week so enjoy it while you can.  Your vocabulary list is at the bottom.  It is due 29/30 October.
