summer 2014

Hola,

For all of you who will be advancing to High School 3  I am placing some links for you to practice the topics you will encounter in class.  Try to read the newspaper in Spanish and watch Spanish news.  This is an activity many High School teachers use in order to prepare you for the AP exam.  The AP exam loves "authentic material".    For those of you I will have next year and are actually looking at this page this will be a good review for you.  We will be covering the imperfect, subjunctive and other forms of the command next year.  You will benefit from looking this over as well.    Remember you can use any of the old posts as well to practice.  The links on the side to useful resources are also good for review.  Hope this helps.  Have a great summer.  Suerte :)

Here is a review another teacher posted:

la semana de 03 marzo de 2014

Hola clase,

SO8

This week we will continue with presentations and the movie Walkout.  You are responsible for studying the notes you have made for your quizzes.  Those of you in competitions, field trips etc.  who miss the movie you will have an alternate assignment so you can have credit for the quiz on the movie.  I will provide to you the day of the quiz or Monday morning tutoring.  Please make sure if you miss the movie you come to tutoring no later than 17 March to make it up.  I will provide homeroom time for you to come in remember AFTER 10 am if you have already met your reading goal.  When we finish with the movie we will review the comparatives and do some work with comparatives and begin the new chapter.  We will be working with communities and be creating one of your own.  This will prepare us for our vacation planning vocabulary as well.  We have a lot to cover in what is left of the year.  Remember your current event is due this week VENEZUELA.  You will also have the tertulia this week.  Your news article must be in Spanish as well as your summary.  Be ready.  I will place comparatives links and vocab info in next week's blog.

SO9

We have finished Gol II and the sports chapter.  We will have drills on direct and indirect objects as well as begin working with present perfect.  You will have present perfect drills next week.  I will be placing practice exercises and explanations later this week.  We will begin discussions of TV and movies and you will become critics and commentators of different programs we watch.  These will be done in tertulia style so be ready each class for the next 2 weeks.  We will have rotations so you may want to bring a towel since you will be working outside when you are not participating in the tertulia.  We will begin commentaries again.  Each night beginning 05 March you will need to watch a different type of TV program you decide what you like or not.  You should schedule 15 minutes each night or afternoon, morning to do this activity.  You will take notes on what you saw, what happened, what you liked and what you disliked.  Remember you are the critic.  Use your vocabulary you copied down with the sports vocabulary.  We will do this homework until the 20th of the month and then you will be turning it in.  It cannot be the same show each night.  I don't want to see family Guy or SpongeBob each entry.  I want you to diversify yourself.  15 mins each night!!!!

Your commentaries will take the place of your evento del momento!

SO9    Below is a link that will take you to practice all you need for chapter 6B.  The present perfect, vocabulary, indirect object pronouns.  Start practicing.  It will help prepare you for the 9 week exam which will encompass direct, indirect objects, present perfect, irregular pretérito, and chapters 6A and 6B.

semana 10 de febrero

SO9

The chapter exam will be 18 Feb at the beginning of class.  We will continue to review direct and indirect object pronouns as well as pretérito this week before the exam.  You will be pretending to be reporters with a video.  This will be for a speaking grade (MYP)  I will use this as an alternative to your current event.  The Olympic current event will just be a written HW grade.  The week of the exam you will have a break.  We will watch Gol II as a reward for the chapter.  You will probably have some hw related to chapter 6B.  I will give those to you at the beginning of class.  The week of 24 Feb we will begin with listening activities related to that chapter. And we will start comentarios again but this time with tv programs or movies you have watched.  We will then use that to do a debate in class.
A new topic we will cover is the present perfect and continue work with indirect object.  No worries.
Your comentarios will take the place of current events for the remainder of the month.
LOOK at PORTAL  I placed  powerpoints and a future quiz for you to practice with on portal.  Make sure to read message so you know what to use and study.
Extra credit will be due the 21st and no later.  It is on the board.

la semana de 21 de enero

Hola Clase,

SO8

This week your current events are due and a group of you will present.  Remember there will be alternate groups presenting so you will not always present, so don't expect a grade in that slot of the gradebook until you have presented.  This week we will work on listening activities with the new vocabulary and there will be homework with it as well.  We will begin having drills again the last week of January once we start covering the new grammar topics.  Expect a vocabulary quiz at anytime next week and there after.  We will also be doing a reading comprehension this week.

SO9

This week we will continue to work on the sports vocabulary.  You will be watching clips in class and having to write a commentary about what you have seen.  These will be similar to what you are to do for homework this week.  Remember you are watching the sports section of any news program whether in the morning or at night or early evening.  It is a 5 minute segment towards the end of the 30 minute news cast.  If your family watches news, have them call you over when they announce the sports will begin so you are prepared.  Remember you may take notes however you want.  I will only be checking the Spanish commentary.  Include the information you would provide in a current event summary.  You have hw due in a week from the workbook.  Most workbook pages will be done as homework and will be due on the dates assigned in class.
